Theory of change
If AAC delivers artist-centered and equity-driven programs and resources utilizing the Collective Impact Model, then it can foster autonomy, agency, and sustainability for independent artists in Boston’s arts landscape. This effort to directly resource artists (especially Black, brown, LGBTQIA+, LATAM, and other systematically excluded groups who are shut out of funding and visibility) through a collective approach not only disrupts inequities in the local arts landscape so that artists can thrive, but it also models the power of collectivist resourcing for the arts sector in Boston.
Theory of Change Definition: Typically formatted as an “if X, then Y” statement, a theory of change is a strategic framework that explains how and why a planned intervention will create a desired long-term impact. We have developed this statement as a way to define the larger scale goals that AAC is aiming to address for Boston artists.

Grow collectively
alongside the artists we serve, ensuring programming remains responsive, not prescriptive. We’re constantly evaluating the way we function internally and externally to offer programming and resources that respond to artists’ needs as we identify them on an ongoing basis. If you have a suggestion on how we can better serve you, please submit via our virtual suggestion box!
Address systemic inequities
in Boston’s arts ecosystem by centering historically excluded artists and dismantling barriers to access. We ensure any artists can engage with our workshops and consultations by providing bilingual consultants, live translation services, closed captioning, virtual/hybrid meeting options, and completely cost free programming, and our in-person programming is held exclusively at venues that are accessible to those with physical disabilities. Learn more about our accessibility offerings here!
Foster collective action
through ongoing exploration of systems change and solidarity, both externally for our constituents and internally within our consortium, and by gathering insights from the Artist Pathways Project to champion artist visibility and advocacy at the city level through our partnership with the Mayor’s Office of Arts and Culture and beyond.
