A Musician's Guide to Gigs (day 1)
For emerging musicians it can feel daunting to tackle everything that goes into getting your work in front of a live audience. In this 2-part introductory workshop (Workshop continues on June 9 from 5-7 pm), participants will learn the ins and outs of booking, promotion and production, from vision through execution. Drawing from fundamental concepts employed by top independent artists and companies, the workshop will encourage artists to find their creative niche and uphold their artistic vision. The workshop will cover additional industry specifics such as press kits, venue contracts, riders, and advance sheets, as well as DIY approaches to planning your own show. This part lecture/part interactive workshop will help give artists the autonomy to book their own shows and the confidence to reach out to their local venues.
Assets For Artists Workshops are open to artists in MA, CT, RI, and ME. Through the Arts Action Consortium Boston artists have priority access to all workshops.

"Quarterly Taxes Don't Exist!" with Akeem Davis
Imagine a future where you never owe end-of-year taxes again! Estimated taxes – much maligned, often denigrated, and rarely understood – are the bridge to that paradise! The simple truth is that artists are entrepreneurs, and the most successful entrepreneurs have precise tax strategies that include the practice of making estimated tax payments. This workshop will clarify what estimated taxes actually are (and why people falsely call them “quarterly taxes”), as well as simplify how to approach and master them. Led by actor and tax preparer Akeem Davis, ”Quarterly Taxes Don’t Exist!” will engage you with anecdotes, Q&A, group exercises, and demonstrations of how to pay estimated taxes at both the federal and state levels. Participants will be guided through the steps needed to understand, calculate, and pay estimated taxes, and will come away with a working knowledge of how estimated tax payments present on and impact a Schedule C and 1040 tax form. This comprehensive workshop aims to spread the confidence and agency that comes from a clear grasp of the many benefits estimated taxes can unlock for your personal finances.
